Where does the O sit in a 5-letter word?
More than 2,500 five-letter words contain an O, and they are far more predictable than that number suggests. Over half of them put the O in the second square — STONE, ROAST, HOUSE, MOUTH, WORLD. The Wordle angle. A yellow O is worth more than a yellow E or A because the letter clusters so hard in the second square — over 1,335 of these 2,500 words. Rule slot two out and the remaining candidates thin dramatically; confirm it and you often have the word within a guess or two. Watch for the OU pair as well: HOUSE, MOUTH, CLOUD and PROUD all hang on it, so a confirmed O plus a live U is a strong signal.
